Soil remediation with ridges and drainage tiles in field production of true fir (AbiesĀ spp.) cut Christmas trees [2011-2012]
The use of drainage tiles and ridges has been reported to be effective in allowing Fraser fir production in areas where losses had occurred to Phytophthora root rot. This experiment was devised to examine the effectiveness of soil remediation techniques, as well as to observe differences between Nordmann, Canaan, and Fraser fir in response to the production conditions.
Nordmann fir was able to grow in the non-remediated soil, while Fraser fir suffered heavy losses. The use of ridges resulted in healthy Fraser fir.
